Made by Mohammed Hussein Khagzi, these 100% jute papers are made using the most traditional Indian methods of papermaking. Single weight sheets are formed on a chapri (laid) mould, and are laminated together during the papermaking process to create heavier sheets. They are brushed onto exterior plaster walls to dry. A diluted starch solution is used a a surface sizing and the sheets have been polished with an agate burnisher to a beautiful, soft sheen. Very beautiful and unusual. All neutral pH with 4 deckles.

PLASTIC PAPER - Strong, translucent and innovative. Plastic Paper is made of 100% discarded plastic bags that are found littering the cities and countryside of India. The plastic is fused together into specific patterns and color schemes. While not actual paper in the traditional sense, they do have many paper-like applications. Plastic paper can be glued, die-cut, painted on and sewn. Acid free and waterproof!
The generational craftsmen who created India's papermaking tradition are known as "Kagzis". Their name originates from the Urdu word kavas meaning paper. Though Kagzis are now almost extinct, the traditional method of hand papermaking is still found in various parts of India where the Kagzi communities ultimately settled. One such community is in Sanganer, near the famous pink city of Jaipur. Legend has it that a Kagzi family was patronized and brought to Jaipur by Mansingh I, the ruler of Jaipur. They believe their origin to be in Turkey from where they moved to China and then to India.
