JAPANESE HANDMADE LACES & TISSUES

LACE PAPER HANDMADES *limited quantities available - handmade from kozo and sulphite pulp in delicate lace patterns. A pattern of small holes is created by subjecting the newly formed sheet to a jet stream of water. Neutral pH; white on white.

Patterns:

*The papermaker who has been making handmade lace papers is now very old and no longer able to make sheets of paper. We have been trying to obtain another source for these sheets, but find the quality and the range of patterns lacking. We do have stock remaining on the patterns listed. As they sell out, we will switch to machine made lace papers when possible. For other lace paper options, please see Thailand laces.

RING LACE - handmade from kozo and sulphite pulp. Two separate sheets with pierced ring patterns are couched together during the papermaking process. 4 deckles.

JAPAN HANDMADE TISSUES

KONOHA LEAF - handmade from a mixture of kozo and sulphite. Neutral pH. Translucent, tissue-weight, with a leaf pattern watermarked into the sheet. White; 4 deckles.

MOKUME WOOD - handmade from a mixture of kozo and sulphite pulp. Neutral pH. Translucent, tissue weight with a wood grain pattern watermarked into the sheet. White.

UNRYU 60 W/GOLD & SILVER - handmade from 100% kozo; neutral pH. Tissue-weight with long kozo fibers and flecks of gold and silver leaf. 4 deckles. White.

MACHINE MADE LACES & TISSUES

LACE MACHINE MADE - machinemade of rayon, sulphite pulp and kozo. White sheets with pierced designs.

ICHIMATSU - machine made of rayon and sulphite pulp; tissue weight. Checkerboard pattern in white

HAKUSEN DECORATIVE TISSUES - machinemade of  sulphite pulp and rayon. Translucent paper with white on white screenprinted patterns.  No deckles.

Patterns:

KOZO MORIKI - handmade from kozo and sulphite pulp. Neutral pH. Strong, soft, laid surface. 4 deckles.

For more than 25 years, Moriki Colors have been a staple of Japanese papers here in the United States. Unfortunately, we have been informed by the mill that they are no longer able to make this grade of colored papers.

Kozo Moriki is a similar grade made by another mill. These sheets have more kozo content and are in a different range of colors. For replacement of the old Moriki colors, please refer to Yatsuo.

OGURA - Handmade from  kozo and  manila hemp. Coarsely textured with fibers; 4 deckles.

Natural - 24 x 36" - $10.15 / sheet     Colors - 24 x 36 - $8.79 / sheet

OGURA LACE - machine made from 100% manila hemp, this paper's fibers form a loose, open pattern resembling lace. Neutral pH. Also available in rolls in natural only (this paper is also called asarakusui).
